Our primary responsibility is to teach students the discipline of sociology. Our courses require synthesis and evaluation, and the application of knowledge to concrete circumstances. We teach students to identify assumptions, theories and methodological approaches relevant to a particular issue, and we sensitize our students to opposing viewpoints and alternative hypotheses.
